Where lakeside wellness, guest experience and responsibility come together

Located directly on the shores of Lake Starnberg, Seebad Starnberg combines indoor swimming facilities, lakeside bathing and a premium sauna experience in a destination that goes far beyond the traditional idea of a public pool. It is a place designed for families, relaxation seekers and guests looking to enjoy water, wellbeing and leisure in a truly unique setting.
In such an environment, guest experience and operational safety naturally go hand in hand. When different attractions, expectations and visitor flows come together, supervision becomes much more than a background task. It is an essential part of delivering a safe, welcoming and high quality experience every day. In the following interview, Operations Manager Christian Herrmann shares insights into its daily operations, its philosophy around water safety and the role technology plays in supporting modern aquatic supervision.

How would you describe the experience you aim to offer your guests across the indoor pool, lakeside area and sauna facilities?
“As a family oriented destination, we want our guests to experience enjoyment, relaxation and genuine wellbeing. The combination of swimming facilities, direct lake access and wellness areas creates a truly distinctive atmosphere. Our sauna area with panoramic mountain views and direct access to the lake further strengthens the unique character of the facility.”

What does safety mean in your daily operations?
“Safety, together with prevention, is the foundation of water supervision.”
What makes supervision in a modern aquatic facility particularly demanding?
“The variety of attractions requires constant attention and continuous presence across multiple areas at the same time. Today, aquatic staff are responsible not only for water supervision, but also for guest interaction and visitor support.”
What led you to evaluate a drowning detection support system?
“There had been several near incidents in which both supervisory staff and individual guests reacted quickly and appropriately.”
Which criteria were decisive in selecting the system?
“The possibility of integrating the system during the renewal of the underwater lighting infrastructure. Another key advantage was avoiding ceiling mounted cameras, significantly reducing installation work within the hall area.”

What helped simplify the installation and what should other facilities consider?
“Existing underwater lighting fixtures that could be upgraded, along with good accessibility to the technical service areas around the pool.”
How integrated is the system within your day to day operations?
“One hundred percent.”
What advice would you give to other public facility operators?
“Guest safety must always remain the highest priority. That is why it is essential to invest continuously in both personnel and technology in order to maintain the highest possible standards.”
Our sincere thanks go to Christian Herrmann and the Seebad Starnberg team for their openness, time and willingness to share these insights. The conversation highlights how modern aquatic safety relies on the balance between prevention, presence, professional expertise and the commitment to providing guests with a safe environment at all times.
