AngelEye sets the standard by becoming the first AI pool safety system installed in an Australian hotel resort.
AngelEye’s first installation in Oceania is now live at Rydges Resort Hunter Valley in New South Wales, Australia. This family-friendly resort has a large outdoor pool with no lifeguards on duty, so guest safety is paramount. With the unwavering support of Specialised Engineering Technologies (SET Services), our official distributor and service partner for Australia & New Zealand, AngelEye deployed an advanced AI-powered drowning detection system, making Rydges Hunter Valley the first hotel resort in Australia to adopt the AngelEye technology.
Comprehensive AI Pool Monitoring
The system integrates underwater and overhead cameras with intelligent software to deliver real-time drowning detection and an additional layer of active safety for the pool. Multiple underwater cameras with integrated LED lighting are installed in the pool walls, ensuring clear underwater visibility even at night. Complementing these are aerial infrared cameras mounted above the pool for wide-angle surface monitoring. This dual-layer camera network eliminates blind spots and maintains coverage even in challenging conditions like glare or crowding.

At the core is the AngelEye LifeGuard drowning detection module, which uses AI to continuously analyze swimmer movement and identify signs of distress within seconds. If a swimmer remains motionless underwater or exhibits unusual behavior, the system triggers an alarm, sending alerts to designated staff via a monitor and mobile devices in under 15 seconds. In contexts where regulations do not require on-site lifeguards, the system’s rapid alert functionality plays a key role in strengthening safety standards and ensuring immediate detection of potential incidents.
To further elevate guest safety, AngelEye SafeGuard features were also implemented. Access Control continuously monitors the pool area after hours and immediately alerts staff in the event of unauthorized entry, helping reduce after-hours risks. Density Control adds an additional layer of protection by providing real-time insight into pool occupancy, supporting smoother capacity management and a safer guest experience even during peak periods. All video processing is performed locally on a dedicated server at the resort, ensuring fast, reliable performance and compliance with privacy standards.
A Milestone for Pool Safety
The installation at Rydges Resort Hunter Valley is a major milestone as AngelEye’s debut in the Oceania region. It sets a new benchmark for hotel/resort pool safety in Australia, demonstrating how AI technology can provide a safer environment for swimmers even in unsupervised pools. The successful collaboration with SET Services showcases how innovative drowning detection solutions can be tailored to hospitality environments. Guests at Rydges Hunter Valley can now enjoy peace of mind knowing that advanced safety measures are in place, underscoring the resort’s commitment to guest well-being and cutting-edge safety standards.
